Exhaust Parts for Mazda Miata
A muffler (or silencer in British English) is a device for reducing the amount of noise emitted by a machine. On internal combustion engines, the engine exhaust blows out through the muffler.
A catalytic converter (colloquially, "cat" or "catcon") is a device used to reduce the toxicity of emissions from an internal combustion engine. Many vehicles have a pre-catalyst located close to the engine's exhaust manifold. This heats up quickly due to its proximity to the engine, and reduces cold-engine emissions by burning off hydrocarbons from the extra-rich mixture used in a cold engine.
Mid-pipe is the section of tubing between the catalytic converter(s) and the rear muffler on cars that have two parallel exhaust pipes. Performance mid-pipes often have a perpendicular connecting pipe or the pipes temporarily merge. This is to equalize the pressure in both exhaust pipes and keep the engine back-pressure as low as possible since back-pressure is detrimental to high end power. * H-Style Pipe where there is a perpendicular connecting pipe, resembling the letter H * X-Style Pipe or X-Pipe where the exhaust pipes temporarily merge, resembling the letter X
